There is a significant population of men, women and children of all ages in Fort Collins undergoing hard times and are without a home. Many of these people turn to the shelters for a good night’s sleep, but then they have no consistent place to go during the day, leaving them with no place to rest, no place to clean up and wash the city dirt off their clothes, and no place to sit down at a table to eat a warm meal.

For a group of people who live each day in a world of unknowns – unable to depend on anyone or anything –The Homeless Day Services Initiative aims to provide a safe place for those facing homelessness to go during the day.

Local Businessman to Donate $50,000 to Expand Daytime Homeless Services

Fort Collins, Colo. – Fort Collins real estate investor, Brian Soukup, announces that he will match $50,000 of donations raised for the Homeless Day Services Initiative – an effort to provide year-round daytime services to the homeless not currently available in Fort Collins.

“The population of homeless people living in Fort Collins cannot be ignored, especially when there are vast resources in our community available to meet their needs,” said Soukup. “There are many wonderful efforts to serve the homeless in this city, and I believe that with the continued help and sacrificial giving of individuals and local businesses towards the Homeless Day Services Initiative, we can meet a pressing need for Fort Collins’ homeless: year-round daytime services.”

The Homeless Day Services Initiative seeks to raise funds to expand the services provided at two facilities that will offer daytime homeless services. Spearheaded by the United Way of Larimer County, Catholic Charities and the Larimer Center for Mental Health, the Homeless Day Services Initiative takes an economical approach in creating a daytime destination for the homeless by offering coordinated services at the organizations’ existing facilities: Sister Mary Alice Murphy Center for Hope and the Catholic Charities Mission. Both agencies are willing to serve the homeless during the day, offering a place for people to rest, clean up, socialize with peers and take a break from inclement weather. However, in order to meet these needs, both facilities will expand its operations and the Mission will need renovations, thus the need to raise funds.
